What revolution?
Come the Revolution is… well, it’s really just something that we thought of while putting food up for the winter. It began as a funny way to reference our behavior as particularly sustainable or unsustainable: come the revolution, we joke, we’ll be blogging by lamplight, running our laptops on pedal power, growing all our own food and using cornhusks as toilet paper.
What we really mean by “the revolution” is post-peak oil, when we’ll all have to adapt to a different kind of lifestyle. Others say WTSHTF (or “when the shit hits the fan”), but we try to put a slightly more hopeful spin on it. The thing is, since there are two of us, we have different ways of conceiving of it. Take the previous ‘come the revolution we’ll have to power our laptops by pedal power.’ Amanda thinks, ‘come the revolution we won’t want to waste wind or water energy on something so frivolous.’ To Cian it’s closer to ‘come the revolution we will have only manual power.’ For both of us, it’s a challenge to figure out how to power a generator with an old stationary bike — or to find where that information is available and bookmark it.
Right now we’re paying our dues and paying down our debts in Washington DC, but it won’t be long before we’re settling down on some acreage and digging in. With that in mind, this blog is a chronicle of our winding path to self-sufficiency, and an encyclopedia of all the resources we’ve begun to accumulate.
Cian and Amanda live in Vermont, where they spend their days farming and their evenings planning for the future.

Hey all! I found your site via the Association of Smith Bloggers via the Daily Jolt. I’m also an ‘06, living in DC, mad about sustainable living. Care to grab an organic beer after working hours some time?
